Hello, my name is Patrick Brown, mayor of the city of Bmpton and I'm joined by Councelor Vasante, Councelor Power, Counselor Santos, Councelor Keenan. Um, we also have with us today Peele Regional Police Staff Superintendent Hubert Hilts and wanted to share with you an update for Canada Day. First of all, um, we've won the lottery to live to live in Canada, the greatest country in the world. Um, and on Canada Day, we want to be passionate and celebrating uh, this incredible country, this rich history that uh, um, really is uh, um, the envy of the world. Um, Bmpton every year puts on a giant Canada Day show at Shinuzi Park. Um, and an event like this, our city comes alive. So, we want to share details on this year's Canada Day celebration. Um, this has been become one of Canada's signature events for Canada Day. It's one of the biggest shows. Shuzzi Park becomes jam-packed. So, on Wednesday, July 1st, from noon until 10:00 p.m. at Shinuzi Park, we will have activities. Uh the park will be transformed to the ultimate Canada Day destination featuring live entertainment, family-friendly activities, delicious food, and spectacular fireworks. We have one of Canada's largest fireworks show presented by Tim Hortons. And that's how we conclude the evening at 10 p.m. Residents and visitors can enjoy everything the park has to offer from giant inflatable rides, games, and slides, vibrant food marketplace. Um, I also note we've got some great headliners, too. We've got award-winning Canadian country music band, Emerson Drive. Uh, we also have headlining this year's Canada Day um, event um, award-winning country star Lee Bryce. And I just want to say uh, this is a free concert. It's a free event. It's meant for everyone to come of all ages uh, to come and celebrate the best country in the world. Um, events like this are only possible because of sponsorships. We have businesses that come together to sponsor this free event for the community. I want to thank our Canada Day sponsors, Tim Hortons, Performance Auto Group, CIBC, uh, and Skydome Group of Companies. Um, I also want to thank the government of Canada for a grant for this annual event. And I would note one of my favorite parts of the day uh, is at 4:30 p.m. we have free Canada Day cupcakes for everyone that comes and mayor and council will be there serving uh, the Canada Day um, cupcakes. Um, I also want to note that we know sometimes largecale events can pose um, safety challenges. Um, and we've got a great plan with Appeal Regional Police. We got the best of the best with with PRP. Um, and they have a plan. They are coordinating to make sure uh, that there are no incidents at Canada Day and it's a safe, familyfriendly event. Um, I'd like to invite Councelor Santos um, to share a few words. She is the chair of our community services committee. Um, and then we're also going to hear from councelor Power and Staff Superintendent Hubert Hilts. And then we're happy to answer any questions you may have about this year's Giant Canada Day party in Bmpton. >> Thanks so much, Mayor Brown. A licensed beer garden will also operate from noon until 10 p.m., providing adults with an additional option to enjoy the festivities responsibly. The celebrations will conclude with one of the most anticipated moments of the day. At 10 pm, the spectacular fireworks display presented by Tim Hortons will light up the sky, providing memorable ending to a day filled with community spirit and celebration. I'll now pass it over to councelor Power. >> Thank you, Councelor Santos. Due to the large scale uh of the Canada Day event, we want to ensure that all attendees uh and road closures will be in effect throughout the day. On-site parking is extremely limited. For a list of authorized off-site parking locations within the walking distance of Chinuzi Park, please be sure to reference the city of Bmpton's website. We encourage all attendees to either walk, cycle, or take transit. Um Bmpton Transit will be offering a free um transit from four different locations. The Mount Pleasant GO Station, Trinity Common Mall, Sheridan College, and the Gore Meadows Community Center. Shuttles will depart each location towards Chinuzi Park every 30 minutes from noon to 9:30 p.m. and then return service from Chinuzi Park to all four locations every 30 minutes from 12:30 to 12:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. These transportation options will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone attending while also helping alleviate traffic congestion around the park. Thank you for everyone that will be out that day and thank you and we look forward to seeing everybody celebrate Canada Day at Shinkuzi Park. I'll now turn it over to Staff Superintendent Hilts who will give a brief update on Peele Regional Police. >> Good morning. Thank you worship and counselors. My name is Staff Superintendent Hubert Hilts of the Peele Regional Police. is my privilege to be here today at city hall with you all. I am here to discuss Pure Original Police's continuous role in upholding public safety, not only in the city of Bmpton, but across Missaga in the region of Peele. Our region and all Canada's buzzing with two major events, Canada Day and the FIFA World Cup games. These events are moments of pride that bring tens of thousands of people. These opportunities and festivals also call for responsibility to ensure every resident, visitor, and family can celebrate safely. Pure Regional Police continues to work with all municipal partners, including the city of Bmpton, to ensure that a robust plans are in place to celebrate and enjoy atmosphere for all. As with every major event, including Canada Day, we are actively monitoring the potential threats through intelligent policing. We have detailed plans in place to mobilize our officers and resources when necessary. We will be present. We will be visible and we will be rep prepared to respond accordingly. I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the important public safety measures here in the city of Bmpton, the band of fireworks. From a policing perspective, it is not just about the bylaw. is about compromising the safety of residents, visitors, and families and the reckless criminal behavior that disrupts the feeling of security. Our message is firm. If you are caught using fireworks in a way that causes harms to others, you will be arrested and the appropriate criminal charges will be laid. Canada Day reflects our diversity and our unity. We want you to enjoy these moments safely. So, as we head into these celebrations with FIFA starting last week and Canada Day coming up, let's celebrate with pride. Let's celebrate with respect. Let's celebrate in a way that keeps everyone safe. That is how we ensure these moments remain enjoyable for everyone. It's a commitment we make to the residents across Bmpton, Missaga, and the region of Peele. Thank you. Well, that's our candidate day update and we can't wait for July 1st to celebrate. And on that note, if there's any questions, we're happy to answer them. Now, >> just remember questions are here on the X. One question, one followup. Please state your name and outlet. >> Uh Tumar from Omni News. Thank you for that. That's actually a great announcement. Thank you for that. Just wanted to know if there's a check on the people bringing illegal or prohibited items inside the park before they enter. Uh just want to know the plan. Yeah, maybe we can have um uh Hubert to respond to that. >> Thank you, Erica. Yes, uh this the Pinal Police are working with the city and we will have checkpoints that'll be controlled entrances and exits. So, we are allowing for food and water and drinks to come in. Um no alcohol and uh your bags will be checked when you enter. >> Thank you. >> Next question. Okay. I don't see any other question. Oh, sure. Yeah. >> Um Har from the Bmpton Guardian. Um I just had a question that as you mentioned there would be checkpoints to get into the park. So how would that uh mean for uh congestion in terms of any weight times and how would P region police is expecting in terms of attendance the number of attendees? >> In the past we've always had a large attendance at this event. It's uh we will have numerous resources on the ground and be visible to support the city as we get people into the event. We don't expect delays. Um, as I said, we've been doing this annually for so many years. >> One follow-up question. Um, what are your specific plans related to fireworks violations considering during Victoria Day there were many violations in the park? So, >> yes, thank you for the question. Um, we're hoping that if there is any illegal firearms, I mean, sorry, illegal fireworks entering the park, we will see them at the checkpoints. will be speaking to people that may be carrying knapsacks and other places that they can seal the fireworks and hopefully get them out of the way before they can be used. >> Thank you. >> Ask a question on Victoria and the park around the area. Is there any plans to control the vehicle traffic coming in and out of that area? our road safety service um bureau will be involved in the traffic outside of the event and hopefully we can deal with those issues out there as they we address them. Thank you. >> Beverly Andrews, City News. Um so you're talking about fireworks in the park, but um what's the plan for people who have fireworks in neighborhoods or just shoot them off in a different area? >> Well, you know, we've had past celebrations of the city where fireworks were um abused. It's why this council um took the decision to prohibit fireworks. We've seen a massive reduction in in firework use since we since we passed that bylaw. We also have bylaw assisting with the enforcement of that. Unfortunately, on Victoria Day, obviously, there was some very reckless use of fireworks um by some young people um who uh clearly um needed to give their head a shake um and se several of them were charged. And so I think there's lessons learned uh from Victoria Day to make sure that we don't have those same safety risks. Fireworks can be very dangerous if used inappropriately and we'll be taking all precautions working with the city of Bmpton bylaw and appeal regional police alongside each other to make sure that there are no safety risks with the misuse of fireworks. >> Right. Thank you. >> Followup. >> Um yeah. No. >> Okay. That concludes our question period. >> Okay. Thank you. >> I can I can do a one-on-one with you. >> Yes. >> Thanks so much. >> Thank you. Top five.
