Taton Place Sewer Extension Approved - Comité de révision — le 10 mars 2026
Ottawa · March 11, 2026
sound check. Guess I should also say hi to Sue and Megan. Good to see you both. All right, everybody. We're going to get the meeting started. It is 1:30 and I'd like to welcome everyone to meeting number two of the committee of revision. I'd like to begin by acknowledging that Ottawa is built on the unseated Anesnabi Alangquin territory. The peoples of the Anishnabi Alongquin nation have lived on this territory for millennia and their culture and presence have nurtured and continue to nurture this land. Uh I can see that uh both other members of the committee are here and we receive no regrets. So no need to do a roll call. Um I would like to acknowledge that we are here to consider item 4.1 local improvement taunt place. Um and that we have received written correspondence from Joyce McKenzie dated March 10th, 2026 which has been circulated to all members of the committee. Uh I would like to turn it over to councelor Brown at this point to uh read a motion into the record. Over to you, Councelor Brown. Thank you very much, Mr. Chair. Whereas the special assessment role for the Taton Place Sanitary Extension has been revised as a result of council's approval of a 20-year special charge recovery period. Therefore, be it resolved that committee of revision receive and approve the revised local improvement special assessment role for the Taton Place sanitary sewer extension as outlined in this report and as amended pursuant to council's approval of a 20-year special charge recovery period following discussion of the written objections submitted by the affected owners. Thank you, Chair. Thank you very much, Councelor Brown. Before we uh revisit that motion for for a vote or or carry it, uh I in my um my newness as chair, I've I've skipped over a couple of of items. So I should have uh gone to the confirmation of minutes from February 2020 uh February 20th, 2026. So are the minutes from the meeting of February 20th uh carried? Yes, carried. Confirmed. Um, and we have no declarations of interest. All right. So, uh, back to the, uh, the motion that councelor Brown read in. Is the motion carried? Carried. Thank you very much. Uh, so we have no in camera items. We have no notices. Oh, sorry, Councelor D. Ro, you have a question. Sorry, Chair. I was just going to speak to it very briefly. Uh, extremely briefly. I know it's been carried and I accept that. Um I I support this. Uh my ward is very much urban, but I do have pockets of rural sections that um from time to time residents have expressed an interest in uh having access to municipal services. Um we are very strictly governed by the local improvement process and that option is available to them. Um there really are no free services in that sense. the the new developments in our ward in my ward uh have paid a significant development charge that's included the price of the home and the the local improvement process recognizes that this is very much a private benefit and um that said it is an expensive undertaking and I certainly am very sympathetic to um the cost and how we can support residents and I think the steps that we've taken as a committee as a council to extend the duration of um of uh of payment will uh provide some um some relief to those who are considering doing this across the city. But again, I want to commend staff as well for that process. There was a lot of good feedback and uh the cost came under what was estimated and um if there are groups interested um I think what we did today is uh is helpful in that process. Thanks, Chair. Well, thank you very much for for those comments, Councelor Dro. would um echo uh everything that he has said and I learned uh just before walking into this meeting that there hasn't really been a successful community improvement process uh in about 13 years and so uh I do believe that that what we did at council um to extend the amortization period. It was a positive thing for this program and will will ensure its success. Um thank you very much. Uh no other comments I'm seeing so I will move on. Uh I do not there are no INC camera items. Uh I don't believe there are any notices of motion for consideration at subsequent meetings. Uh are there any inquiries? Seeing none uh there's no other business. So for now we will uh adjourn this meeting and the next meeting of this committee is to be determined. Thank you very much for everyone for being coming out today and uh thank you to everyone who delegated and took part in this process. Thank you chair.
