Summary

Heritage Richmond Hill approved heritage designations for two properties on Yonge Street. One designation had to be re-approved after an administrative error last year resulted in the wrong property owner being notified.

Topics Discussed

HERITAGE DESIGNATION FOR 10030 YONGE STREET: The committee unanimously approved a Notice of Intention to Designate 10030 Yonge Street. Chair Karen praised staff for providing "a very very comprehensive report." The motion was moved by Barbara Marwan.

HERITAGE DESIGNATION FOR 12125 YONGE STREET - SECOND ATTEMPT: The committee approved a Notice of Intention to Designate 12125 Yonge Street, a property that had previously been endorsed in June of last year. The designation had to be brought back due to an administrative error where the city's records incorrectly listed the church as the owner instead of the diocese. Because the diocese was not properly served notice as required by law, the designation could not proceed. The diocese sent a letter pointing out the failure to notify them and requested further discussions about how certain heritage attributes were described. Staff made refinements to the statement of significance and heritage attributes based on these discussions. Bob De Mambro commented: "the report was quite comprehensive and I thank the staff for all the work that they did to bring this forward." The motion was moved by Diane McCloud and passed unanimously.
