Stone Church Road Water Infrastructure Project - 23 Jun 26
Hamilton · June 23, 2026
Hello and thank you for listening to the
City of Hamilton Stone Church Road
Feeder Main project presentation.
This recording is provided in advance of
a public information session hosted by
the City of Hamilton on June 24th from
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Valley
Park Library in program room B.
This presentation describes the
preliminary design for the City of
Hamilton's Feeder Main project and
provides information on how to contact
the City about the project.
Questions and comments can be directed
to the City of Hamilton's project
manager, Winston Wang. Contact
information is provided online at
www.hamilton.ca/build-invest-grow
/construction-renovation/construction-your-area/stone-church-road-feeder-main
and is listed in this presentation.
We will first start with a land
acknowledgement.
The City of Hamilton is situated upon
the traditional territories of the Erie,
Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Hodinošóne, and
Mississaugas.
This land is covered by the Dish With
One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which
was an agreement between the Hodinošóne
and Anishinabek to share and care for
the resources around the Great Lakes.
We further acknowledge that this land is
covered by the Between the Lakes
Purchase 1792
between the Crown and the Mississaugas
of the Credit First Nation.
Today, the City of Hamilton is home to
many indigenous peoples from across
Turtle Island, also known as North
America, and we recognize that we must
do more to learn about the rich history
of this land so that we can better
understand our roles as residents,
partners, and caretakers.
The purpose of this public information
session is for the City to share
information about the project location,
construction approach, and to provide
first points of contact for businesses,
residents, and users within the study
area.
This presentation will cover background
information about the project, the
project timeline, the project team,
provide an explanation of the alignment
of the feeder main, provide an early
description of the anticipated project
impacts, and end with project next
steps.
The project team consists of Winston
Wang, project manager, and Mengshu Yuan,
design technologist from the City of
Hamilton, working together with a
consultant team at WSP.
The Stone Church Road Feeder Main
project was first identified and
confirmed as a servicing solution
through the City of Hamilton's
Integrated Water and Wastewater Master
Plan Update, completed in 2006 and
updated in 2023.
The Master Plan guides how
infrastructure will be expanded over a
30-year time period to accommodate
growth and ensure safe, clean drinking
water, and effective environmental
protection across the city.
The Stone Church Road Feeder Main
project involves the design and
construction of a new feeder main, which
is a large-diameter water pipe that is
used to transport water from a water
treatment plant or pumping station to a
water reservoir or another pumping
station.
This feeder main plays a key role in
providing residents, businesses, and
users with clean potable water.
The feeder main will service growth in
the Airport Employment Growth District,
Rymal Road Planning Area, and the
Southeast Mountain Area.
The project will also provide additional
distribution capacity for the Tonbridge
Pumping Station.
The project location crosses through
residential, mixed-use, and commercial
areas, as well as environmentally
sensitive areas of the natural heritage
system, including two creek crossings.
The The was initiated in spring of 2025.
Since then, the city has been advancing
preliminary design to confirm the
alignment of the feeder main and review
technical requirements,
constructability, and constraints. Site
investigations are ongoing.
Detailed design is scheduled for
completion in early 2027.
By fall of 2027, the city will seek to
procure a construction team for the
project. Construction is expected to
start in the summer of 2028, and the
project is expected to be complete by
the summer of 2031.
The feeder main project will start from
an existing valve chamber at the Mud
Street West and First Road West
intersection and connect to the existing
Tunbridge Pumping Station located at
Tunbridge Crescent and Stonechurch Road
East.
A valve chamber is an underground
enclosure that houses valves and related
equipment for controlling water,
wastewater, or storm water systems.
In most locations, the feeder main will
be installed within the existing road
right-of-way alongside or near the
current water main to increase capacity
and improve system reliability.
This is also referred to as the twinning
of the water main.
Construction will primarily take place
within the existing road right-of-way
using open cut construction.
Open cut construction involves removing
large amounts of soil directly from the
surface. Then, once construction is
complete, the soil is placed on top to
restore the area's original condition.
However, three sections of the project
will use trenchless construction methods
to minimize disruption at surface level.
Trenchless construction methods, such as
micro tunneling, will be used in
environmentally sensitive areas and busy
road intersections.
Trenchless construction methods avoid
extensive digging, allowing for minimal
disruption to roads, businesses, and
communities.
The three sections of the project with
trenchless construction are at Falkirk's
Creek, which passes under Mud Street
West between Paramount Drive and Isaac
Brock Drive.
At Red Hill Creek within the Mount
Albion Conservation Area, which passes
under Stone Church Road East between
Dartnell Road and Anchor Road.
And at the intersection of Upper Red
Hill Valley Parkway and Stone Church
Road to allow for traffic to pass
through.
Temporary construction impacts are
expected.
These impacts may include noise,
dust, and vibration during active work
periods.
The city will work with stakeholders in
the area to mitigate impacts and notify
residents in advance of any
construction.
There are four main areas of projected
project impacts.
First is traffic. There will be planned
lane reductions and some road closures
for a few weeks.
The exact timelines around lane
reductions and road closures will be
communicated with residents and business
owners beforehand.
The city will work to maintain access to
properties and reduce disruptions where
possible.
Second is noise and dust. Construction
work hours will be between 7:00 a.m. and
10:00 p.m. And dust will be actively
controlled in order to keep residents
and business owners safe.
The exact work hours and dust mitigation
measures will be determined at the
detailed design phase.
Third is residential and commercial
driveways, which may be impacted by
construction.
Any impacted properties will be given
notice approximately 2 weeks in advance
with further details.
Fourth is the environment.
Any impacts to vegetation will be
restored and replaced once construction
is complete.
The city is holding a public information
session to gather your feedback and
better understand user needs within the
project area.
If If are a landowner, land user, or
business in the project area, feedback
on local conditions and access needs
will help the city to mitigate
disruptions during construction.
These next set of images show some
locations along the route where access
to private property and side streets
will be impacted.
The city and consultant team will work
on advancing design to better
communicate impacts and mitigation
measures before construction.
The first segment shown on the slide is
between Tongue Bridge Crescent and Nebo
Road along Stonechurch Road East.
This slide shows a segment of the feeder
main project that will be constructed
between Anchor Road and Upper Mount
Albion Road along Stonechurch Road East.
This slide shows the segment of the
feeder main project between Winterberry
Drive and Marston Street along Paramount
Drive.
This slide shows the segment of the
feeder main project between Paramount
Drive and First Road West along Mud
Street West.
Access to the Heritage Hill Shopping
Centre will be maintained from one
entrance off Mud Street West and from
Paramount Drive.
Your feedback in person or by contacting
the city's project team will be used to
better understand the city's mitigation
measures and construction timing.
The project has completed its early
design phase and is progressing into
detailed design this year with
pre-construction activities commencing
in fall of 2027.
Further updates will be shared as the
project progresses.
Thank you for your time in reviewing the
details of this presentation.
